Tax handled properly for your medical corporation

Many physicians and dentists practise through a medical or dental professional corporation, and that structure carries real tax weight. There is the corporate return to file, personal returns for each practitioner, income splitting rules to respect, and deductions to claim without overreaching. Our tax services cover all of it, and every return is prepared and filed by a CPA who works with practices day in and day out.

What a CPA files for you

Returns for the clinic and the practitioners

The corporation

The professional corporation T2

Your medical or dental professional corporation files a federal corporate return, the T2, within six months of its fiscal year end. We prepare it from your figures, claim the deductions your practice is entitled to, and file it on time. See our corporate tax (T2) service.

The practitioners

Personal returns for the doctors

The way a practitioner draws income from the corporation, through salary, dividends, or a mix, flows straight through to the personal return. We prepare each one and coordinate it with the corporation. See our personal tax returns service.

Where practices need real care

The tax details that matter for clinics

The corporate return

Your professional corporation T2, prepared and filed within six months of year end.

Income splitting rules

Dividends to family members fall under the TOSI rules. We apply them carefully so nothing is caught off guard.

Deductions that hold up

Legitimate practice expenses claimed in full, and nothing that would put your filing at risk.

Salary and dividend planning

We look at how you draw income from the corporation so the personal and corporate sides work together.

The GST and HST point clinics should know

Most health, medical, and dental services performed by licensed physicians and dentists are exempt supplies for GST and HST, so no tax is charged on those services. Because they are exempt rather than taxable, a clinic is generally not entitled to claim input tax credits on the expenses used to provide them. We factor this into how your return is prepared. The wording is set out in the Canada Revenue Agency guide for GST and HST registrants: General Information for GST/HST Registrants.

Why practices choose us

Tax filing built around your clinic

Prepared and filed by a CPA

Your corporate and personal returns are prepared and reviewed by a Chartered Professional Accountant, not seasonal software or a part time preparer.

We know the income splitting rules

The TOSI rules on dividends to family members catch a lot of practices out. We apply them with care so your filing is correct and defensible.

Accurate and always on time

We track your T2 deadline, personal filing dates, and remittances, so your practice avoids penalties, interest, and last minute scrambles.

Fully virtual across Canada

Everything runs online with secure digital records. There is nothing to drop off, and we work with practices anywhere in the country.

E-commerce can get complicated fast with fees and multiple payment platforms. Better Books Canada broke it down in a way that actually made sense. Reports arrive on time and highlight what needs attention. It’s been easier to focus on growth instead of trying to reconcile transactions late at night.

This firm is amazingly detail focused and client centric. I have been using them since the conception of my business and without their expertise and dedication to the numbers of it all I would not be able to flourish the way I am. Furthermore, Bashar is personable, patient, incredibly knowledgeable, timely, trustworthy, genuine and all around a total win to have on any team for financial services.

Bashar is incredibly competent, knowledgeable and honest. He is not a bookkeeper that likes to meddle in grey areas. He has worked for the CRA and does everything he can to protect and inform his clients. He provides an incredible amount of value compared to the amount that he charges, and it’s truly been a pleasure working with him. I highly recommend Bashar if anyone is looking for bookkeeping services in Ottawa.
