What the CO-17 is

Quebec's corporation income tax return

The CO-17 is Quebec's corporation income tax return, the provincial equivalent of the federal T2. While the Canada Revenue Agency administers federal corporate tax, Revenu Quebec administers corporate tax inside the province. A corporation that operates in Quebec generally has to file both returns for the same fiscal year, and the two need to line up. Every CO-17 we handle is prepared and filed by a CPA.

Who files and when

The CO-17 at a glance

Who must file

Corporations with a permanent establishment in Quebec at any point in the fiscal year.

Six month deadline

The CO-17 is filed within six months of the corporation's fiscal year end.

Filed electronically

Since November 2019, Revenu Quebec requires the CO-17 to be filed electronically.

Matched to your T2

We coordinate the CO-17 with your federal T2 so the numbers agree across both returns.

The detail

CO-17, federal T2, and how they fit together

Operating in two tax systems at once is where Quebec corporations most often slip. Your corporation reports to the Canada Revenue Agency on the federal T2 and to Revenu Quebec on the CO-17, and both returns cover the same fiscal year. When the two are prepared separately, or by different people, small differences in income, deductions, or tax credits can surface later and trigger questions.

We prepare them together. We start from clean books, build the federal federal corporate tax (T2) return, then carry the figures into the CO-17 so the provincial return reconciles to the federal one. Because Revenu Quebec requires electronic filing, we file the CO-17 online and confirm it was received. Returns are prepared and filed by a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), so your filing is accurate and ready to stand up to CRA review.

If your corporation also collects Quebec sales tax, we can fold that work in through our QST filing, and if you or your shareholders have Quebec personal obligations we handle Quebec personal tax too. You can see the full picture across all our tax services.

E-commerce can get complicated fast with fees and multiple payment platforms. Better Books Canada broke it down in a way that actually made sense. Reports arrive on time and highlight what needs attention. It’s been easier to focus on growth instead of trying to reconcile transactions late at night.

This firm is amazingly detail focused and client centric. I have been using them since the conception of my business and without their expertise and dedication to the numbers of it all I would not be able to flourish the way I am. Furthermore, Bashar is personable, patient, incredibly knowledgeable, timely, trustworthy, genuine and all around a total win to have on any team for financial services.

Bashar is incredibly competent, knowledgeable and honest. He is not a bookkeeper that likes to meddle in grey areas. He has worked for the CRA and does everything he can to protect and inform his clients. He provides an incredible amount of value compared to the amount that he charges, and it’s truly been a pleasure working with him. I highly recommend Bashar if anyone is looking for bookkeeping services in Ottawa.
